2026 Canary island Trip

Canary Islands and Madrid/Toledo Spain 2026 Trip

Since we couldn’t fly out the day we had planned due to the winter wonderland, Dean decided we needed to be able to open and walk out of all the doors. I can get to the bird feeder now.

After the adventure of trying to leave Cincinnati right after the blizzard (we were delayed a day) and having half of our plane filled with flight crews dressed and ready for work once they arrive at JFK, we made it to the lovely Canary Islands for two weeks on the lovely volcanic islands just off the northwest side of Africa.

First meal in Spain! And yes Dean knew what he was ordering.

The weather is mild, 60’s-70’s this time of year with sunny skies and lots of wind thanks to the Trade Winds. The 6 islands we visited were all unique. We got to hike on a volcanic hills formed in 2021, 1971 and much older. Each island had a lush side and a desert side thanks to the mountains and trade winds. The cities are historic Spanish ports filled with old buildings, small family restaurants, colorful markets, cathedrals, and beautiful gardens. I never did get used to having a parrot or parakeets fly by. We feel so grateful that we got to experience these wonderful islands and really didn’t miss the very cold weather at home. The snow was still waiting for us when we returned.

Below is a quick video of the trip.
